Teens! Earn Volunteer Hours by Reading

Did you know that we have a program called “Book It! Reviews” at the library? You can earn two hours of community service by reviewing books we have in our Young Adult section!

Here’s how you do it:

Read

  • Teens (ages 13 – 19) select a book from our Young Adult section.
  • Check previous “Book It! Reviews” to see if your book has already been reviewed. If it has, please select another book.

Write

  • Include the following information in your review:
  1. Your First and Last Name and your Age
  2. Book Title and Author
  3. Overall star rating (1 – 5)
  4. First paragraph: Plot Summary with NO spoilers.
  5. Second paragraph: What did you think of the book and, most important, why?
  6. Third paragraph: Would you recommend the book to others? Why or why not?

Your review will be featured on our website; proofread your review.

Submit

  • Allow one week for your review to be approved by library staff and a certificate to be sent with your community service hours.
  • Plan accordingly. If you have an upcoming deadline for community service hours, submit your book reviews at least one week prior. There will be no rushed book review approvals.

*The books in our Young Adult section cover a wide range of content and maturity levels. Per Oak Ridge Public Library policy: “Parents of minor children assume responsibility for their children’s reading and viewing choices. The library will not monitor the items checked out by a minor.”
