Stargazer Bingo

Play Stargazer Bingo for chances to win our weekly prize!

You can enter completed single rows – in any direction – on your Stargazer Bingo Board each week for the weekly raffle.

For each completed row of Bingo you earn one entry for the following Monday’s raffle. The more rows you complete, the more entries you get.

Black Out BINGO cards are worth 3 entries.

Flat Stanley

This beloved children’s book character first discovers the thrill of adventure when he realizes he’s been squished flat by a bulletin board in his sleep. He decides to make the most of his situation by sliding under locked doors, flying like a kite, and even mailing himself to his friends across the country.

This summer, we want to encourage our summer readers to take on their own adventures in the same spirit as Stanley. In your sign-up package, you will receive your own Flat Stanley to take with you on your summer trips, hikes, and projects. Be sure to take some pictures of your travels and send them in to earn a raffle entry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Signups and Participation

When is the Adult Summer Reading Program?

Adventure Begins at Your Library on May 20th and ends July 22nd.

How do I register for the Adult Summer Reading Program?

Sign-ups begin Monday, May 20th.  To register for ASRP, you must visit the front desk and fill out our signup form. Once registered, you will receive your official ASRP information package including:

  • Information brochure for ASRP Programs, important dates, raffle rules, and bracket instructions.
  • Reading challenge logs
  • BINGO Cards
  • ORPL Flat Stanleys
  • List of Potential Prizes

Is there an age limit?

You must be twelve years of age or older to register for ASRP.

Are there any prizes for participating?

Though no two prizes are the same across events, there are prizes for completing the reading challenge and opportunities to win in our weekly raffle. You earn a ticket in the weekly raffle by getting a complete row in BINGO, sending a picture of you and your ORPL Flat Stanley on your summer travels, and voting in the What Does Oak Ridge Read? bracket.

How will I know who won a prize?

All raffle winners will be announced on ORPL’s Facebook Page, live on Mondays at 3 PM for the Adult Summer Reading Program. The first raffle drawing winners will be announced Monday June 10th, and the final two winners on Monday July 22nd. For those that miss the Facebook live event, the winner’s names will be posted on the ASRP website the Friday of the week they are called, sent in the ASRP newsletter, and again at the very end of the Summer Reading Program.

Do I have to have a library card to participate?

You are not required to have a library card to register or participate in the Adult Summer Reading Program.

Do I have to read books from this library?

You are not required to read books from Oak Ridge Public Library to meet the Reading Challenge requirements. Certain BINGO tiles will require you to read books from ORPL, while others will simply ask you to read a library book. Though we encourage participants to make use of our selections (and, we believe, it will be easier for you to complete the challenges we’ve presented you with), you can make use of whatever library cards you currently have. However, you are expected to submit proof that the books you’ve read do in fact belong to a library and were not withdrawn items purchased/found/borrowed from non-library sources.

Completing the Program

Do I have to stop at 5 books?

You can read as many books as you are able beyond the benchmark required to complete the reading challenge. If you meet the minimum of 5, you qualify for the finisher’s prize. However, there are no additional prizes for reading more than 5 books.

How do I turn in my reading log or full bingo card?

Pictures of all BINGO submissions – from completed rows to blackouts – should be sent to orplprograms@oakridgetn.gov to qualify for raffle entries. To receive the finisher’s prize for completing the required reading, please bring in the completed reading log to the front desk of the library before July 19th to claim your reward.  All prizes must be collected by August 1st.

How do I enter the weekly raffle?

Participating in the following activities counts as an entry into weekly raffles:

  • Play Book Bingo – for each row of Bingo you complete, you earn one entry into the raffle for the following Monday. The more rows you complete, the more entries you get. Black Out BINGO cards are worth 3 entries.
  • Flat Stanley – Share your adventures with Flat Stanley! This beloved children’s book character first discovered the thrill of adventure when he realizes he’d been squished flat by a bulletin board in his sleep. He decided to make the most of his situation by sliding under locked doors, flying as a kite, and even mailing himself to his friends across the country.
    • Feel free to color and decorate your Flat Stanley however you like. Make sure to keep the ORPL logo visible, as only ORPL logo t-shirt wearing Stanleys will qualify in Raffle Entries. Replacement Stanley can be printed at the library.
  • Participating in a featured event – Sitting in on an author talk, visiting the ORPL booth at Lavender Festival, or joining the library book club – Know the Prose – are just some of the featured events in our lineup this summer. Check out the list of featured events above to make your selection for which to attend! Certain events may even offer bonus opportunities for raffle entries. Please note, not all library programs are featured as ASRP events, but attending any library event offers enrichment, education, and possibly an opportunity to fill in a BINGO square.
  • Voting in the bracket – The What Does Oak Ridge Read? bracket is a single-elimination style bracket that tracks all our readers’ favorite genres as they race to the top. Each week, you’ll be prompted to vote for your favorite genre to read. The winning genres move on to the next round to face off with the other winners until only two are left. At the end of the summer, the final votes will decide which genre is ultimately the favorite among all summer readers. Voting in each round will earn one entry into the raffle.

Events

Do I have to be signed up for SRP in order to attend any events?

We encourage any patrons with an interest in our programs to attend them! No one is required to be an ASRP participant to attend an event. Non-registrants will not be able to participate in the raffle or qualify for the reading log finisher prizes but are otherwise welcome to enjoy our programs.

Are all the events in-person this summer?

Apart from our Virtual Author Talks, all our programs during ASRP will be held in-person.

Can my child participate in the scavenger hunt?

Anyone visiting the library who would like to participate in the scavenger hunt is welcome to, though only attendees who receive our MailChimp will receive advanced notice of the upcoming scavenger hunt.

Still have questions? Feel free to call or chat with us, or you can come by the library.

Want to win prizes but don’t have time to read five books? You can still enter to win a prize in our weekly raffle drawing!

Here’s how to enter your name for a ticket for week’s raffle:
