Children's Room

About Us

The Children’s Room houses a collection of books, audiobooks, CDs, and learning technology appropriate for infants through middle school and their caregivers. You can browse our collection by looking through our catalog, and we are always happy to help you pick out the books that are just right for you.

We also oversee the many children and teen programs and events offered throughout the year. More information about our programming can be found below.

Storytime

From the start of the school year until the last day, storytime is a fixture here at the library. Our Children’s Librarian, Ms. Michaela, welcomes children and their caregivers to come participate in stories, songs, fingerplays, and flannel boards as she reads some of her favorite books, both old and new. Each month, Ms. Michaela creates and follows a list of fun topics that correspond with the season.

Mother Goose

Looking for an interactive program designed to stimulate learning, introduce group activities, and encourage play? Mother Goose is the answer! Led by Children's Clerk Michael, the Mother Goose Program is a group experience for parents and their babies and young children. The program introduces adults and children to the pleasure and power of using rhymes, songs, and stories together.

Sensory Story Group

Sensory Story Group is a uniquely designed program to help families with neurodivergent children engage with literacy and learning in a calm, welcoming, and comfortable space. Each group is limited to 12 families in order to keep the programs small and approachable.

Our HABIT dogs try to be here each week at the same time, but they are dogs, so please be flexible. Maddie is here on Monday mornings around 11am and Chester is here on Wednesday evenings around 5pm.

Storybook Trail

Located along the walking path near the creek in A. K. Bissell park, this permanent installation features the book Over in the Forest: Come and Take a Peek by Marianne Berkes. Thanks to a grant from the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation as well as the hard work of the library staff and the Recreation and Parks department, the storybook trail is designed to foster a love of reading, imagination, movement, and the outdoors.
